Park to Perk Bunny and Bike Ride, 4/17/11

BIKES, BUNNIES AND BIRTHDAYS!

Wow!  What a great celebration today.  We will receive the professional photos from Edwin Demafiles tomorrow and I will post on Facebook.  We’ll leave a cd at shop if anyone needs to upload directly.  We are all in agreement that the Park to Perk Bunny and Bike Ride should be an annual event, and of course we always enjoy sharing free treats on our birthday to thank you all for your support.  It really does take a village to pull off these events, and it takes a village for a small business to make it to 3 years and feel stronger.  Debbi, our staff and I thank you all.

In particular, I have to thank  the following peeps:

Vicki Phillips and Brian Spinner for coming up with the idea.  Jerica McClure-Pries, our beloved Bunny.  Arabella McClure, our Bunny Buddy, helping to distribute bags. Edwin Demafiles, our generous photographer.  Our Crossing Guards: Ellen Keating (dear friend), Dede Frain (Babes Around Denver), Alison Schafer (Simple Sugar Bakery), Gary Nearpass (Washington Street Community Center), LeaAnn Purvis ( Culinary Affairs), and Janice McClure (our generous landlord).  Madeline Silver Overly, our Perk Cycle barista and bunny chauffeur today.  Virginia Pitts, for getting photos at start.  Erin Thompson, who helped us pack goodie bags last night, and coordinated all of the food set-up and clean up, balloon placement along route, and overall great friend helping Teri to not overdo it while healing ;-) .  Jeff Friedlander, our musician today.  Our staff: Hollie, Austin, Chloe, Andrea, Bethany, Leah and Zoe…. they work a lot harder in order for us to enjoy these days in community.  Lea Ann Purvis, for making the FANTASTIC lavender limeade!!!  And, last, but never ever least, my loyal and loving partner, Debbi Main, who even after working her full time job all week, happily participates and supports anything I ask of her for the good of the shop and our community.  She will drive the Perk Cycle each weekend for me until June.   It’s a good village.

EARTH DAY is April 22nd and there are a bunch of wonderful events around the city all week!

HAPPY ANNIVERSARY to Denver B-Cycle on April 22nd as well.  Check out their celebration event.  They’ve been a great support to Wash Perk and the Perk Cycle.

PERK CYCLE NAMING CONTEST:  Come by to cast your vote for the name of our coffee cargo bike, that we up until now, have called the Perk Cycle (Brian Spinner gave us this label).

For those of you that recognize Easter, Happy Easter to you!

For those of celebrating Passover this week, Happy Passover to you and your loved ones!

Coffee Price Increase March 1st:

No, it has nothing to do with our expansion.  And, our Coffee Bike is a gift from Debbi.

Well, it’s bad timing for all of us and I wonder what price a great cup of coffee will be in the next few years…. For me, Wash Perk is obviously about more than the coffee, but hands down….. the full bodied, fair trade, perfectly roasted by wonderful local peeps cup o joe is the main starting point for all that Wash Perk is built upon.  Thank you, Kaladi Coffee.

We have only raised prices once since opening and it was $0.10.  Prices across the board have slowly risen and we try very hard to not react too soon in passing on costs to our customers.  This increase, I’ve been advised, is too much for us to bare alone, as our prices were already lower than most,  and try to survive as a small business with narrow margins.

Coffee drinks will go up $0.25.  Whole bean bags will be up $3.00.  Travel mug discount will go up to $0.25 discount, but only because we want to find a way to keep reinforcing less waste.  This will not cover the increase for us, but becomes a shared choice.  We understand how big of an impact this will have on all of us.

February 7th-February 13th

Introducing our Google Barcode

We have this barcode that goes directly to our “From the Green Cup” page, thanks to Julie North, our DU grad student that is conducting a  Wash Perk Sustainability Assessment.  Peeps with “smart phones” can take a picture of this barcode at our shop and it will take them to our page that contains information about our attempts and successes in becoming more sustainable as a business.
