Together we raised almost $500 to send to Haiti by donating our convenience coffee. A special thanks to Kelly and Ashleigh who donated their tips last Friday am. Everyone was generous in their contributions and they are much appreciated.

Project Valentine
Project Valentine needs our help. Valentine-making supplies are available at shop, courtesy of Rita Sokolowski. We need LOTS of Valentines made by Feb 5th to send to Project Valentine for the donated care packages. Take a moment to make a valentine while you enjoy your coffee with us. To nominate someone for the 2010 Citizens Medal, please review the criteria for this year’s medal and fully answer the questions below. Additional awardees may be selected outside of the public nomination process. In order for the individual to be considered for the Medal:
- Nominees must be citizens of the United States, as required by the 1969 Executive Order.
- The nominee’s service must have been performed outside of their regular job.
- All questions on this form must be fully answered.
- Nominations must be received by Thursday, January 28, 2010 at 11:59 p.m. EST.

Coby Gould is the newest face you’ll see at the Perk. He will help us out part-time while he pursues his volunteer interests in the community. Coby is a Denver native and grew up not too far from Wash Perk. He is a food activist, facilitator, environmental educator and permaculturalist. He graduated from The University of Colorado, Boulder with a Degree in Philosophy and Peace and Conflict studies. He attended a course on Multiculturalism and Social Change in Cape Town, South Africa and did organic farming work in both India and Ireland.
Our very own aspiring superstar, Kelly O’Laughlin attended a peace rally yesterday that marked the anniversary of the onset of major conflict in Afghanistan. She was invited to come and recite her lines from her current role in “Afghanistan in the Age of Flowers”, playing every Friday night through October at 
Yesterday was also Nerd Day at South, and this is how Austin showed up at our staff meeting last night. We all love the glasses! 
Erin is from Spokane, WA and she is entering her third year at DU. She is working toward her BA in International Studies. She’s been a Resident Assistant on campus, a barista, and has contributed to lots of volunteer projects. We are so happy to have her join us, and look forward to her sticking around!!!

Welcome, Sharon! Or maybe it’s welcome back…. Sharon is our newest face at the shop. She was actually the original barista that came to our shop pre-open to train all of us on our equipment. Sharon is an artist and a skilled barista, as well as a very hard worker! She will also be the manager of the art and photography that you will see up on our walls. We are so happy to have Sharon join us. She will be here at least until Sept., maybe longer???
