Energy Series – meeting once a month, with speakers on different topics that revolve around Energy – renewable energy, conservation, sustainability, etc. This upcoming month’s program (October 27) will be hosting speakers from the Mountain Top Removal Appalachian Voices and someone from the Project to Relocate and Assist Environmental Refugees.

Turkey Trot, 36th Annual!

Thu, November 26, 8am – 12pm Washington Park

Join us for the 36th Annual Mile High United Way The Turkey Trot.Mile High United Way’s Turkey Trot is an annual four-mile run/walk fundraiser in Washington Park on Thanksgiving morning. Each year 10,000 runners have make the Turkey Trot a Thanksgiving morning tradition. Mile High United Way focuses on three life-changing initiatives: School Readiness, Youth Success and Adult Self Sufficiency. We succeed when children, individuals and families achieve financial stability and self sufficiency in our community. Entry Fees: Registrations price for Adults increases to $40 on November 9. A printable registration form will be available October 13. Race Day Schedule and Event Information 10:15 am: 4-mile run 10:30 am: 4-mile run/walk 11:00 am: 1-mile family fun run (NEW COURSE around Grasmere Lake) Entry fee includes one long-sleeve 100% cotton t-shirt, post-race expo, refreshments.

Announcements for the week of August 10-16

Here are the events and meetings happening at Wash Perk and in the Washington Park area.
  • Tuesday, August 11th: our incredible bus-person, Austin Evans, returns from his vacation back east!!!! We missed him around here, but were happy to see more of Kendra and Dani! Welcome back!

  • MWWP (Merchants of West Washington Park) Halloween planning meeting 9:30 am on Wednesday August 12th at Wash Perk
  • FANS (Friends and Neighbors of Washington Park) Tree Tour
    Wed, August 12, 6pm – 7pm at Dos Chappel Boathouse, Washington Park
    Tour of Trees in Washington Park including State Champions. Learn about the different species of trees in the park and identify the state champion trees with the help of Doug Schoch with the Forestry Division of Parks and Recreation. What is the oldest tree in the park, what is the most common tree, what about all the cotton from the cottonwoods? Join us.

Coffee Social for B.A.D. and Luke Rackers is back!

BAD hosts First Friday – the LARGEST monthly women’s party in the US with more than 1500 women every month. BAD is excited to have a team in the fabulous All Women’s Bike Ride – the Venus de Miles on Sunday August 30th 2009. It’s a RIDE not a race and you can join if you can ride a bike. The ride will be in Longmont and there will be a fabulous festival following the ride. BAD will have their own jerseys and all the proceeds will benefit Greenhouse Scholars. For the next several weeks, they will be hosting social gatherings to “pump up the volume” on the ride. Please check them out. The web site for the ride is www.venusdemiles.com.
