HAPPY EARTH DAY, April 22nd!

Courtesy of our much loved Linda Boardman

History of Earth Day
Each year, Earth Day – April 22nd – marks the anniversary of what many consider the birth of the modern environmental movement. The first Earth Day in 1970 was celebrated by more than 20 million Americans. They held massive coast-to-coast rallies in the streets, parks, and auditoriums to demonstrate for a healthy, sustainable environment. Groups that had been fighting against the deterioration of the environment – oil spills, polluting factories and power plants, raw sewage, toxic dumps, pesticides, freeways, the loss of wilderness, the extinction of wildlife – suddenly realized they shared common values.

April 22, 2012 marks the 42nd anniversary of the grassroots fair that inspired a nation to reflect upon the Earth and their impact on it.
