About

NEIGHBORS/PARTNERS/OWNERS

Not sure why it’s taken me this long to write anything about Debbi and me, but I’m finally sitting in one place to do it.  Debbi and I live in and love this neighborhood and we are just approaching our 10 year anniversary together.  Debbi is a professor at the University of Colorado; I was an oncology nurse/massage therapist.  Having a coffee house was not a “dream realized”…. it was a spontaneous act of intuition when the opportunity came up to share a business in our neighborhood, enjoying two of our favorite things: community and coffee. We used to walk on weekends , 40 minutes each way, to Kaladi Coffee and spend our mornings reading, yacking and enjoying the superb coffee.  We had no other initial thought but to bring Kaladi Coffee a little closer to us!  I love comfortable spaces, snacks, service and generally pleasant people, so altogether it  just seemed to happen.  Before we opened on April 1st, 2008, we asked neighbors to vote on a name for the shop.  And so, WASH PERK was born!

Wash Perk loves its customers, community, and the planet! We are a green business and a great place to be (at least we obviously think so…).

WASH PERK GREEN BUSINESS PRACTICES

We are open to suggestions of more we can do to be as gentle with our use on the planet as possible.

The following are things we are doing to care for our Planet…

  • We use local vendors to minimize shipping and fuel costs
  • Our coffee is mostly organic and all Fair Trade from local roaster, Kaladi Brothers…and they’re just good peeps
  • We use a water-efficient, high-temp sanitizing dishwasher
  • We have multiple recycling and composting bins
  • We were involved with the Denver Compost Pilot Program
  • We pay Waste Farmers for composting.
  • We provide coffee grounds to customers for composting
  • We promote washable containers instead of paper products through Wash Perk’s Travel Mug Program. Bring in a mug to use and you’ll get $.10 off your drink, or bring in one to use and one to donate and you’ll get a free drink.
  • We use Eco-Products compostable products, including to-go containers, plasticware, straws and cups
  • We use Green Seal cleaning products and sanitation
  • We use Cintas maintenance, an eco-conscious company
