Wash Perk Happenings

Well, we got our decorations up just in time for Santa’s visit this past Saturday.  Edwin will be emailing photos in the next few days.  HUGE appreciation for Edwin Demafiles (our wonderful photographer), Jefferson McClure (aka Kris Kringle) and Austin Evans (the welcoming elf that kept track of all your information).  Thanks also to Katie, Ashleigh, Jonathan, Bethany and Zoe for holding down the rest of the shop.  This is the stuff that makes me so glad to be a part of a neighborhood shop.

Welcome Helena (a little overdue), Chloe and Kate to our staff.

Kate

We are getting ready for our extended hours in January.  The changes won’t be major right now at the shop, but we will have more space, longer hours and hopefully a bigger espresso machine soon.  M-F: 6a-8p; Sat/Sun: 7a-6p

NEW AT PERK:

Waste Farmers: We have been composting at the shop since the trial run with the city in 2009-2010.  When the grant money ran out, they were going to cancel, but alot of us wrote in and said we’d pay, so they are in another trial phase of feasibility, and we paid to have service until December.  They will only allow one container per address, so we have now enlisted the services of Waste Farmers, thanks to Julie North recommending and researching.   We currently have 3 bins a week pickup, thanks to you all sorting trash. Our dedicated staff take the time to sort all of our waste and they also take the time to refill the reusable  2 oz jars so we decrease our plastic waste.  It really is a commitment for all of us across the board.  Check out Waste Farmers if you are interested.

Paz for Life and The Foundation for Hospices in Sub Saharan Africa are new non-profit vendors at the shop. Paz has vibrant cards and FHSSA has cool bottle cap earrings.  Paz contributes a portion of sales to charity.  FHSSA contributes 100% to their cause. Check it out next time you’re in.
